Pomelo and fresh coconut gain a phytosanitary protocol for China

In April 2026, Vietnam and China signed a protocol on phytosanitary requirements for exported pomelo and fresh coconut. Vietnam has submitted images and videos of 140 registered growing area and packing facility codes requested by the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC), and is seeking approval for 221 growing area codes and 63 packing facilities.

Also in April 2026, Vietnamese pomelo shipped its first consignment to Australia. In Japan, experts are supervising large-scale fruit fly trials on pomelo to support market access. Vietnam has about 106,000 hectares of pomelo.

For passion fruit, the US is expected to publish a notice in 2026 allowing imports of Vietnamese passion fruit. The Central Highlands account for more than 80% of the country's passion fruit area and over 90% of its output.

Overall, fruit and vegetable exports reached about USD 4.83 billion in the first seven months of 2026, up 24.9% year on year.
